The Philippine Artists Group of Canada, invited thru the Toronto Consulate General, celebrates the 111th anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence by representing the home country in the Art09 International Art Fair on June 12, 13 & 14 at the Metro Convention Centre, 255 Front Street West, Toronto. Art09 is a first gathering of artists from Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Cuba, Czechoslavakia, Egypt, Finland, France, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Poland, and Turkey.

Led by its new president, Omel Masalunga, and founding president, Romi MananQuil, the PAG members Rolly Abarilla, Jun Afable, Teody Asuncion, Nellie Bautista, Celia Correa, Cobie Cruz, Frank Cruzet, Jhun Diamante, Tony Doctor, Rol Lampitoc, Dong Magalona, Koni Marcoux, Toots Quiachon, Frank and Nelia Tonido again showcase the colourful world of Philippine art, this time, with nearly 250 accomplished local and international artists along with 50 emerging artists who will unveil and sell their creations in this 3-day international art fair.
On display are the breathtaking landscapes, evocative figuratives, captivating photography, spirited abstractions, intricate sculptures and jewelleries from around the world in oils, watercolours, acrylics, drawings, mixed media, glass and ceramics. Also featured are ‘The Tree of Hope’ where encouraging messages will be attached and presented to the sick kids after the show and various stage art presentation, interviews, discussions and video installations. Part of the proceeds from the sales will go to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children.
The festival opens on Friday, June 12 with a night party featuring Calypso Dancers and live Reggae Band. The public also have the chance to taste the exquisite food samples and enjoy the distinctive music of the more than 20 participating countries and vote for their favourite artwork/artist in the ‘People’s Choice Award’.
