dear mr. flores,

may these photos help so that our countrymen in The Netherlands will be able to see how it was here in metro manila last saturday...

i know the people in The Netherlands are familiar with the high tide of the sea... it was good, the high tide happened earlier of saturday morning and did not coincide with the heavy rains and winds before lunch.

these photos came from my nephew, a U.P. junior student in Industrial Pharmacy...

hoping for your prayer and assistance to our countrymen...

May the blessings and intercession of San Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino Saint, be with you... it is his feast day today.

God bless!!!

According to international media they called this an Epic Disaster, The Katrina of Philippines.

Here are some photos taken by our kababayans who hailed from the Great Flood!

Sincerely,

For those who do not know, Christine Reyes is a known Filipina actress who has starred the reality TV show Starstruck. She is best known on television shows such as Banana Split, Kahit Isang Saglit and Eva Fonda. In the picture, the actress is stranded in her home and she ended up staying on the roof. It took a while before she was rescued.

Friends,

The disaster is far worse than we thought. Here are a few more pictures. I am not showing the worst of the pictures! Tomorrow we have a medical mission for over 1000 people. Tonight papaya was handing out drinking water and others came with food, clothing etc The politicians have all been there packing the goods, some politicians care! Thank you Barangay Captain Roger Frias.

warm regards

The Wrath of Ondoy
Michelli Collado (BU)

Ondoy may have ruined a lot of things but not the Filipino spirit. Camaraderie and bayanihan were palpable in the direst of times. Strangers helping strangers. Strangers becoming brothers. It is the most beautiful human experience brought about by the ugliest disaster. This is the silver lining in this catastrophe – compassion and generosity exist even in a poor nation that was devastated even more.

Let us keep helping our brothers and sisters. Let us keep saving and rebuilding lives. Bawat Pilipino ay bayani. Makakabangon rin tayo, Pilipinas.

When we relate to other people, it is but natural to adapt different versions of yourself. One cannot openly say “ P*tang Ina” in front of one’s mother, or it would be quite unnatural to greet a peer by making “mano po”. With the collection of letters that Rizal exchanged, different aspects of his personality come out. Rizal kept all the letters that he received because “through them he wanted to study the character, temperament, transformation, and intellectual tendencies of his friends and countrymen” (Viola 324). So we do the same now to him.

In a letter, addressed to Trinidad Rizal, Rizal fits into the role of “Kuya”. He tells of his adventures in Germany and his impression of German women who are not afraid of men and are more concerned with substance than with appearances. So like any kuya, he encourages Trining to form the habit of studying, so as to adorn herself with substance. He ends the letter asking her to write him back in Spanish....
