Online tools that non-profits can use to raise funds for Ondoy victims

As emailed by Timi Stoop-Alcala for posting in MN September 28, 2009

There are several ways online to generate awareness and raise funds for causes. The most important step needed form non-profit organisationanisations is to register themselves so they can be included in the database.

Ammado - www.ammado.com / www.ammado.com/about/nonprofits

Non-profit organisations should register with Amado to benefit from its community. With easy-to-use tools, they can establish their web presence, receive donations, publish their latest articles and much more … all for free. This way anyone from anywhere in the world can make online donations (in currency of choice). It takes only a few days for the application to be approved. Ayala Foundation, for example, is registered with them, but it's open especially for small non-profit organisations.

For example, if Migrante or some other organisations qualifies for this, you as an individual can donate directly to them, or you can create your own fund-raising page to support their efforts. You can invite my friends to support me and donate to my beneficiary of choice. So it's not only about one-time donation. Supporters of the organisations can use this tool to easily create fund-raising activities / communities and really rally around their cause. It’s easy, fast and manageable.

For US non-profits (similar principles to Ammado )

First Giving - www.firstgiving.com /

Facebook causes - apps.facebook.com/causes/help?m=3738908c

Kickstarter - www.kickstarter.com/learn-more

Kickstarter is slightly different. You have to get enough pledges for a project to go through. Donors must have amazon.com account, which is very easy to create. If the project receives enough pledges, the credit cards of donors will be charged. If not, then they won't be charged at all.

Maraming salamat.

Tulong-tulung sa pagtatanggol sa karapatan at kagalingan!
Tulong-tulung sa panahon ng kagipitan at kalamidad!

When we relate to other people, it is but natural to adapt different versions of yourself. One cannot openly say “ P*tang Ina” in front of one’s mother, or it would be quite unnatural to greet a peer by making “mano po”. With the collection of letters that Rizal exchanged, different aspects of his personality come out. Rizal kept all the letters that he received because “through them he wanted to study the character, temperament, transformation, and intellectual tendencies of his friends and countrymen” (Viola 324). So we do the same now to him.

In a letter, addressed to Trinidad Rizal, Rizal fits into the role of “Kuya”. He tells of his adventures in Germany and his impression of German women who are not afraid of men and are more concerned with substance than with appearances. So like any kuya, he encourages Trining to form the habit of studying, so as to adorn herself with substance. He ends the letter asking her to write him back in Spanish....
