Dear kababayans and friends in Belgium,

We all are devastated with the recent heart-breaking disaster which happened in our beloved country when the worst ever typhoon flooded and battered Metro Manila and Luzon areas. I am very sure that you follow with compassionate concern the aftermath of tropical storm Ondoy which wrought tragedy in the Philippines when streets turned to rivers and people struggled to escape drowning by climbing onto the rooftops which became their refuge. So many ended homeless and others shed tears losing their loved ones. I am also certain that your heart is full of desire to help and you are now asking how.

The beautiful thing about this disaster is the fact that faced with tragedy, the kindness of the Filipino emerges: the calamity brought out small miracles of the human heart that reaches out to others. People helping the stranded, the weak, the powerless, the less fortunate, some even risking their lives to save the others. So many unsung heroes are now taking part in this movement of compassion and solidarity in the name of charity.

To date, 4,644 houses are damaged, some 2560 compeletely destroyed and 2075 partially affected. A total of 512,092 families are affected by the floodwaters that struck Quezon City, Pasig, Marikina, San Juan, San Mateo, Montalban and some other towns of Rizal. Much is needed to help our afflicted brothers and sisters survive these days of ordeal by providing the basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter. Thence, help will be most needed to assist them in the most difficult part of rebuilding their homes, lives and hope!

We are enjoying the benefits of a good life and a stable means of income here abroad. We cannot remain indifferent to this suffering of our own brothers and sisters in the Philippines. We encourage you to reach out to them in a concrete way by donating financial help.

COFAB will start a “Project of Hope for the victims of Ondoy”. We will initiate the collection of your donations and take charge of sending them to the Philippines assuring that they reach the most neglected portion of the victims. We plan to do this by networking with organizations involved in relief operations in the Philippines. We intend to course thru the Associations of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines (AMRSP) all our donations which will be given directly to the victims.

Please email me if you wish to have more info about Associations of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines (AMRSP

( dhelulu55cofabxl@yahoo.com )

Maghawak-kamay tayong lahat sa panahong ito na kailangan ng ating mga kababayan ang ating tulong! Maraming, maraming salamat at mabuhay tayong lahat! !

On your part please fill in the reply slip so that your donation will be properly acknowledged.

Truly yours,

DHEL C. LULU

COFAB President (GSM: 0476398750)

Please fill in and send to DHEL C. LULU/LILIA VELASQUEZ the soonest time possible.

When we relate to other people, it is but natural to adapt different versions of yourself. One cannot openly say “ P*tang Ina” in front of one’s mother, or it would be quite unnatural to greet a peer by making “mano po”. With the collection of letters that Rizal exchanged, different aspects of his personality come out. Rizal kept all the letters that he received because “through them he wanted to study the character, temperament, transformation, and intellectual tendencies of his friends and countrymen” (Viola 324). So we do the same now to him.

In a letter, addressed to Trinidad Rizal, Rizal fits into the role of “Kuya”. He tells of his adventures in Germany and his impression of German women who are not afraid of men and are more concerned with substance than with appearances. So like any kuya, he encourages Trining to form the habit of studying, so as to adorn herself with substance. He ends the letter asking her to write him back in Spanish....
