Jeddah - The leadership of the Filipino Basketball Association led by Edgar Mendoza, succeeded in securing the exclusive sponsorship of Jollibee Saudi Arabia for their upcoming basketball tournament.

The tourney, dubbed as 1st Jollibee-29th FBA Basketball Tournament is set to start on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 5PM at the Saudi Hi-Tech compound here in Jeddah with 28 teams already signified their intention to join.

Initial negotiations for the exclusive sponsorship of the prestigious event was done by Mendoza and Mazen Zaki Munshi (marketing manager of Nesma Holding Co. Ltd.) together with Billy Junn Tabares, the marketing officer of Jollibee. Rigid preparation is now being undertaken both by FBA and Jollibee to facilitate the holding of the event starting next Friday.

After signing the sponsorship agreement contract, Faisal Y. Bamhrez (division manager), assured Mendoza of their full support to the tournament and wishing him good luck for the upcoming grand parade and opening ceremony.

Commissioner Abel Chavenia confirmed the participation of the following teams with their respective divisions: Inter-Commercial Bona fide Group A – Arabian Int’l. Company (AIC), American Garden, BG Company-Gulf Express, Goody, Sarco-Shoaiba A, Saudi Oger and Sharbatly Corp. Inter-Commercial Bona fide Group B – Al-GBAA, Consolidated Can Mfg. Co. (CCMC), Fikra Printing Press, Radisson Blu, Rosewood Corniche Hotel, Sarco-Jeddah, Sarco-Shoaiba B and Zahid Tractor. Inter-Commercial Open Non-Rated Division – Al-Shuman, Centerpoint, Fruit Ice Cream, Jeddah Kickers, Jollibee, New Breed-Al Shaya, Strikers, Nissan-AUC and Al-Zafer Cargo. Inter-Commercial Open Rated Division (Ltd.) – Al-Salam International Hospital, Hanco Maintenance, Samir Group and Solid North.

Invited guests for the upcoming event are officials from the Philippine Consulate headed by Consul General Ezzedin H. Tago, active community leaders, senior executives of sponsoring company and other well known personalities are also expected to grace the occasion.

According to Mendoza, admission is free for all basketball aficionados and they will have the opportunity to bring home fabulous free raffle prizes such as LCD monitors of 32 & 42 inches, a laptop computer and other Jollibee’s promotional items.  Cash and valuable prizes are also at stake in the tournament.

FBA is the longest running basketball league in the western region if not the Kingom. Founded in 1996, FBA is presently organized by Edgar Mendoza (president), Abel Chavenia (commissioner), Noel Miguel (technical director), Danny Gulapa (deputy tech. director), Edgar Ainza (marketing director), Rudy Ruaya (operations director), Lita Chavenia (treasurer), Janno Ruaya (peace & security director), Paul Antiporda (adviser), Angel Garcia (announcer), Delfin Borja (head scoreboard operator), Mario de los Reyes and Arjay (committee members) and Jeddah Officiating Group (JOG).
