While the school-going-youth in Belgium is enjoying a well-earned holidays, classes in the Philippines have started again.

On the initiative of Marc Wayaert, CADAATAN vzw-Belgium  had collected all types of school material in the past months.  This material was sent to Cebu in big cartons.
 
Our vice-president, Guy Waterloos, was present during the first school day and he could see in person the enthusiastic reactions of the school directors when the material was handed out.

The following materials were divided among the schools: pens, paint, triangles, notebooks …


 
While our vice-president was over there, the decision was also taken to construct a class room in Barangay Batad.  Guy Waterloos has also handed over the funds for this to the local manager Artemio Cortuna and the construction works have started immediately.
 
Our treasurer, Denis Pierpont, is currently there and to our astonishment he could already join the opening reception of the new class room in Batad.  Who has said again that everything goes slowly in the Philippines?
 
We did have some experience from the past as we build already two classroom in Barangay Libaong.

Cadaatan vzw’ main goal is to improve the situation in which children in certain schools in the Philippines need to take the classes.  The area, in which the vzw is active, is located in the North of the island CEBU, and more specifically in certain barangays of SAN REMIGIO.  The amount of schools where help is giving is growing: first there was Lambusan, followed by Tacup, Victoria and Mano, at this moment there are already 13 out of 26 barrangays that can benefit from the support of the vzw.  The last one was added in December 2009 and that is the school of Kanagahan.  The support is mainly given to Elementary Schools for children from 7 to 12.

The main help the vzw is giving is by donating food on certain days of the week.  In some schools also some ventilators (in total 71) have been installed.  It is very difficult for a child to stay concentrated when it is hungry or the temperatures are unbearable high.  Cadaatan vzw also renovated some Daycare Centers, more precisely in Tacup and in Lapu Lapu (very close to Cebu City).  For the last one, the idea was to only renovate the roof but because of the poor condition of the building, there was decided to completely rebuild it.

• On Saturday 30^th October there is rockcafé in De Gildezaal in Handzame.
• On Sunday 28^th November there is our 9^th winterbarbecue, also in OC De Kouter in Kortemark.
