Lyon, 5 December 2010--Snow has hit France, and it’s some 10 cm in many cities, which is a lot for urban France where most cities have only light to medium snow, and Paris usually has none. So it was a treat for the trekkers, and did not deter the would be pilgrims, but all the more inspired the community to bus down to Lyon.
On December 5, leaders of the Philippine community organisations trekked in three buses to Fourvičre atop the hill overlooking the city of Lyon, to install the image of
Our Lady of the Naval de Manila. In the Philippines, especially in the Bicol region,
Our Lady de Naval is a sacred image and deeply respected and honoured by seamen and fishermen. In Bicol as well as some parts of Manila, fluvial parades abound. In France, the Peńafrancia Association annually organizes a fluvial parade.
In Lyon, the pilgrim trekkers were accompanied by several of the consuls led by our very own Ambassador to France, Her Excellency Rora Navarro Tolentino. Together with her husband, Atty Tolentino, the Ambassador has been supporting this project of the community of Fourvičre together with their town Mayor and the Cardinal, who is President of the Basilica of Fourvičre.
The Philippine community organizations in Paris contributed a total of 2000€ to bring about this installation.
After the ceremonies, outside, for most, it was a rare treat to experience a real snowfall, and make giant snowballs!
Hoy, anong lasa?
