PRE-VALENTINES GALA NIGHT PARTY
Luxembourg
January 18, 2012

The  SAMAHAN NG MGA PILIPINO LUXEMBOURG a.s.b.l. together with our major sponsor FILINVEST International will host a Pre-Valentines Day Gala Night Party  on the evening of the 11th of February 2012 at the ballroom of Novotel Hotel Luxembourg in Kirchberg.

This event will coincide with the 5th anniversary of the Samahan Lux a.s.b.l. as a registered non-profitable Filipino association in Luxembourg.

Our guests will not only dine in class but will be entertained live and in style by a Pinoy/German  dance and show band known as the SPEEDLIMIT BAND. Guests who loves to dance will surely love this group as they play TOP 40 tunes from the 60’s to the present. The band will perform live on stage for the first time in Luxembourg. A band that plays dance music for the young and for the young at hearts. They promise to play music from different generations, from boogie, swing , disco and Lady Gaga.

As we always do in the past, we always mixed fun and generosity together. As we all enjoy the party we make sure that we will donate to the needy afterwards. As the fund raising side of the event, we will have a Search for the Mr. & Mrs. Valentine 2012. The goal of this contest is to raise funds to be donated to our chosen beneficiaries. 4 lovely candidates together with their partners (1 from Luxembourg, 1 from Virton, 1 from Antwerp and 1 from Roermond, NL) will compete for the title, all this candidates were pre-selected.

Upon arrival from 6:30pm  to 7:30pm,  guest will be given welcome drinks ( Champagne, fruit juices) together with finger foods at the lobby of the hotel and during dinner time the Novotel chefs will prepare and cook a special  3 set dinner (entreé, main course and dessert) all of  which will be individually served in the guests respective tables. We won’t be seeing our guest in their elegant dresses queing in line for their dinner this time.  Special menu for vegetarian guests can be requested in advance. Kindly inform the organizers one week before the event.

Finally, we would like to inform you that our beneficiary for this event is the HELP FILIPINO CHILDREN FOUNDATION of The Netherlands. For inquiries please check www.helpfilipinochildren.com . Officers and members of the foundation will be present during the event so any question regarding the foundation can be answered directly by any of the HFC committees. We will also donate parts of the proceed to ABS-CBN Bantay-Bata 163 Foundation in the Philippines. I am sure that most of the readers knows the long time relationship between the Samahan Lux and BB-163 Foundation. We had hosted the ABS CBN Bantay-Bata 163 Director Ms. Tina Monson Palma in Luxembourg thrice.

We hope to see you on the 11th of February 2012. Tickets are still on sale. The ticket price for the event is €65.00 this includes the dinner and welcome drinks. For ticket sale reservation you can contact Myrna Mergen 00352 691 808 750 or Bernadette Robles 00352 78 75 76 or email at gmanalo@pt.lu

More'THE MISTRESS' Set for showing on September 28 all over Canada

ANNOUNCEMENT:

An Olivia M. Lamansan film:

"THE MISTRESS"
Set for showing on September 28 all over Canada
for more detail, see poster...
It was Yuletide season, a good time for another family reunion in the Philippines.  We celebrated Christmas Eve at my brother Danny and his wife Cindy’s house.  Cindy’s sisters Annie and Bettina hosted Christmas lunch.  Our holiday meals were both delightful and generous.  It was time for some physical vacation activities.  Our destination – Coron in the province of Palawan.

Coron is remote.  We took three modes of transportation to get there - by air, land and sea.  Our big family tour group flew from Manila to Busuanga Island just north of the island of Palawan, then rode two vans through hills and dirt roads, before taking two motor boats to reach our secluded vacation hideaway by the beach.  The skillful boatmen waded and pushed the two small crafts as we passed through shallow waters between mangroves.

This still life was painted in 2003 when painting was for me more enthusiasm than expertise. This work was quite acceptable to me then if not perfect in terms of forms and composition. The shells, the main objects of interest and basically orange in color, were set off by a complementary blue atmosphere. The sturdy triangular arrangement bound the various elements into one strong unified whole. The yellow peaches and fruits marked the tips of the triangle that served as an enclosure of where the excitement was concentrated. Very little seemed to be lacking in this creation.

But, looking at it now, I can't resist the urge to inject more vibrant colors and greater atmospheric perspective in what now appears to be a dull and flat composition. Neither can't I help noticing other shortcomings: the lemon peel is too long, the shells lack natural luster, the fruits and leaves are not fresh, and the strong contrast between the warm and cool table draperies grab too much attention. A renovation is certainly needed and is clearly the most logical next step.
