Foundation History:
ALPHA KAPPA RHO of UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS-MANILA
San Francisco-CA
April 26, 2012

A brief foundation  history:

It was on the 8th day of August year 1973, the celebration of the Feast Day of St. Dominic, patron saint of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines sixteen young, all-male, energetic and ambitious freshmen and sophomore students of the University, sharing the same interest, dreams and ambitions, formed their own kind of organization - the ALPHA KAPPA RHO. This was during the tumultuous early years of the martial rule in the Philippines. However the time was then, these young men guided by the Almighty, bonded themselves together as one.

ALPHA KAPPA RHO  NORCAL CHAPTER  JOINS  EARTH DAY CELEBRATION 2012  In SAN FRANCISCO-CA

San Francisco-CA
April 22, 2012

In our ongoing effort to serve our communities, create awareness and fellowship, in partnership with SurfRider Foundation, our mighty Alpha Kappa Rho has once again succeeded in its goal and promise, carried out by our fellow brothers from NorCal, aided by the brothers from SoCal.

Following the footsteps of the SoCal chapter - who so willingly lend their hands in full support for the event - this time, it is our NorCal brothers that made a difference in a little way, the best they could.  All in all, seventeen Skeptron brothers participated in the beach clean-up in Ocean Beach, San Francisco, California last weekend, April 22nd. The successful beach clean-up was a part of the whole day event organized by SurfRider Foundation in celebration of Earth Day. Sponsored by some big names, such as Redbull and Trumer Pils, the Earth Day celebration included a block party right after the clean-up at Taraval Street, San Francisco, with raffles, food and live music.

The day was not only a success in creating awareness for our environment and making a difference in our community, but also a huge success for our beloved Alpha Kappa Rho.

In striving to keep its promise and uphold its integrity, our aims and goals remain intact.  Furthermore, the camaraderie and togetherness among our brothers exemplifies our existence and the glory of Alpha Kappa Rho depends on how we take care of one another.

It is our life-long endeavor of spreading the roots of our brotherhood/sisterhood to make a difference in our communities, and above all, we value our time with our fellow Skeptron.  After all, a time spent with our fellow Skeptron is a time well spent.  And with the upcoming events, projects and activities may we become stronger and grow as one in keeping the burning fire alive.

A few more activities/projects lined-up in the coming months. So, sign up and be counted.

Until next time, we hope to see you!

It was Yuletide season, a good time for another family reunion in the Philippines.  We celebrated Christmas Eve at my brother Danny and his wife Cindy’s house.  Cindy’s sisters Annie and Bettina hosted Christmas lunch.  Our holiday meals were both delightful and generous.  It was time for some physical vacation activities.  Our destination – Coron in the province of Palawan.

Coron is remote.  We took three modes of transportation to get there - by air, land and sea.  Our big family tour group flew from Manila to Busuanga Island just north of the island of Palawan, then rode two vans through hills and dirt roads, before taking two motor boats to reach our secluded vacation hideaway by the beach.  The skillful boatmen waded and pushed the two small crafts as we passed through shallow waters between mangroves.
