FAPS and PBC supports Mobile OAV Registration
Riyadh-Saudi Arabia
April 29, 2012

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – The Filipino Athletes and Performers Society (FAPS) and Pinoy Badminton Club (PBC) supported the on-going Mobile Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) Registration by the Philippine Embassy Riyadh during its field registration held at Elite International School last April 27, 2012.

As a step towards its success, both organizations pledges support via information dissemination to widen the campaign. This is the organizations’ answer to the massive call of the Embassy for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) where the extensive help of different community organizations is needed. The Embassy is very keen in encouraging the involvement and great participation of OFWs for the upcoming National Elections for Senate and Party-list Representative come April-May 2013. Present during that day is the OAV Head, Vice Consul Red Genotiva.

Asked how far the campaign is responding, Genotiva said they are exerting efforts.

For now, we have more than 3,000 registered OFWs compared to 7,000 last 2009. We still have 6 more months to go that’s why we are exerting more efforts to reach to our Kabayans. Buraidah is the next stop this coming weekend,” he said.

In addition, the OAV Team plans to utilize the resources of International Schools in Riyadh for better access and more comfortable registration.

Access to hospitals and villa accommodations where most OFWs are housed is possible wherein the Embassy will send letter of request to companies for authorization of conducting the mobile OAV registration in their respective places,” he added during quick interview.

FAPS is a community partner of the Philippine Embassy Riyadh catering different cultural shows and sports events while PBC has more or less 60 members who are all badminton enthusiast.

The OAV Registration booth is located at the Embassy’s lobby and is open during Saturdays through Wednesdays from 8:00AM to 5:00PM and on Thursdays from 8:00AM to 12:00NN. Just bring Passport (original or photocopy and Iqama. The OAV Registration ends on October 31, 2012.

It was Yuletide season, a good time for another family reunion in the Philippines.  We celebrated Christmas Eve at my brother Danny and his wife Cindy’s house.  Cindy’s sisters Annie and Bettina hosted Christmas lunch.  Our holiday meals were both delightful and generous.  It was time for some physical vacation activities.  Our destination – Coron in the province of Palawan.

Coron is remote.  We took three modes of transportation to get there - by air, land and sea.  Our big family tour group flew from Manila to Busuanga Island just north of the island of Palawan, then rode two vans through hills and dirt roads, before taking two motor boats to reach our secluded vacation hideaway by the beach.  The skillful boatmen waded and pushed the two small crafts as we passed through shallow waters between mangroves.
