The official newspaper of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, Bagumbayan has been given a ‘faith lift,’ since impelled by a new credo, the media piece is now oriented more to the public and to our partners, as well as to knights in the Philippines and abroad.
The General Assembly and Election of the Supreme Council were held at the spacious auditorium of the Taguig City University, Central Bicutan, Taguig City, through the gracious office of Sir Borbo, KGOR, president of the University.
Instead of the traditional newpaper broadsheet of 12 pages, Bagumbayan is now a 24 page magazine, the maiden issue including an 8 page insert of the Report of the Supreme Commander and Supreme Council for Rizalian Year 2012-2014. The report is formulated for appreciation by the public, not only the knights. Contrary to expectation, the new format (minus the Report insert) costs the same as the old newspaper.
Inside we feature two young writers, one a historian and professor of the Rizal course at university level, Jobal Balsalmo KCR, chapter commander of the new Sucesos Chapter of history professors. He writes on the deeper meaning of teaching Rizal. The other is a media writer, Ms Ivy Jean Vibar of ABS-CBN News who recounts the death of Rizal à la Tweeter! And how the national hero is tweeted by 32,000 tweeters!
Generous space is given to news from the chapters in the Philippines and abroad, though this could be doubled and still would not be enough!
Inside we have stories on the significance of
Kabata, the poem Rizal wrote at the age of eight, re-training the knights for new challenges, and our youth leadership fora.
Bagumbayan is also online and can be downloaded at
www.knightsofrizal.org.ph. Selected articles are posted ahead of press time.
It is our profound hope to reach a wider public, and especially the young potential leaders of the country, as the message of Rizal must be made relevant to all.
We welcome your comments.
