FILIPINO COMMUNITY PICNIC 2012 IN ROTTERDAM ONCE AGAIN A SUCCESS!
By Daisy Megraso
Rotterdam-The Netherlands June 30, 2012
Last Saturday, June 2, we were lucky to have a fine weather during the picnic to commemorate Philippine Independence Day. Thank you all for your prayers and we thank God for granting our wish.
As early as 9:00 a.m., we were already stuffing our palate with “sinugbang atay ng manok”, “inihaw na isda” and barbecue of all sorts of tastes and sizes - courtesy of Anna and Roel Bergenbosch. We even had plenty of “talaba” for everyone to share until 9:00 p.m. - courtesy of Norman and Annie Borun.
By mid-afternoon, the place was surrounded by tents with smoking barbecues. Thanks to Evelyn van Leeuwen and Linda Sanchez for the effort on the grill. All enjoyed participating and/or watching the games headed by Rosa Cabrillas and Alma van Haaften. Kids and adults alike giggled and shouted with laughter during the hanging-apple-eating contest, break-the-egg contest, tug-of-war and a lot more.
Good thing, we also had seasoned guitarists in our midst, headed by no other than Grace Cabactulan, Junior Alivio, Jessie Inaldo along with others; and of course Adriaan van Haaften with his accordion. We enjoyed singing the whole afternoon.
Around 8:00 p.m., the group began to disperse leaving only the group of the old ladies – Bunny de Wit, Lane, Zeni Sajot and yours truly to help clear up the place. All in all, it was a successful event. Everyone enjoyed the company of each other, the sharing of food, friendly atmosphere and the fine weather.
Later, everybody packed up their bags and folded their tents with happy faces. We hugged and said goodbye with the promise of doing it again next year. For this, my especial thanks to Roel and Anna for bringing the FCCR tent; to Charlie and Linda for helping me out later with the folding of the FCCR tent as well as securing the place afterwards. My thanks also to Rosa and Alma for organizing the games and to Evelyn who took care of the food.
And to everyone who came and graced the day with their smiles and happy spirits, I give you back my grateful smile. This only shows once more, "Together we achieve more". Hope we could do this again next year. May God bless you all?
