In the ‘organized’ chaos of his studio, with large piles of black inked paper on the floor, I could actually see patterns and designs almost everywhere. A simple tea cup on a bamboo holder becomes a cosmos of yellow-green in a sea of black! Chen Tzung is undoubtedly an artist of deep sensitivity and far sighted vision.
The way he boils tea and pours hot water over the dried leaves in the traditional tea pot, then clamps the pot over an ordinary glass to let the hot water seep through the leaves and fill up the glass—this operation fascinates. Then from the glass he fills our little cups. I watched this at least six times, so you can tell how much tea we drank, or how much of his precious time he gave us.

Nanjing today is a beautiful ‘small city,’ as cities in China are usually large, sprawling urban jungles. It is only an hour and fifteen minutes from Shanghai by China’s own TGV. It served several times in history as the capital of China and is titled as one of the four ancient capitals of this great land. It is now the capital of Jiangsu province.

This city is like a large garden built around a lake, and one strolls and feels that Buddha is walking behind you, or with you. The ancient trees and cultural stele take you back centuries to the cradle of civilisation, art and philosophy.
