CHRISTMAS OF A HOOKER
Part 3
Scarborough, Ontario
Tue 25th December 2012

One night at the club, a group of customers arrived. There were about twenty of them. They were rowdy. They were noisy. They were arrogant. The way they looked and the way they were dressed indicated they worked in different departments and do different jobs.

Some were wearing golf shirts matched with signature designer jeans and Nike jogging shoes. Some were wearing ordinary clothing. Their smell was different too. One can smell the stink of sweat from some and smell of perfume and cologne from others.

CHRISTMAS OF A HOOKER
(Part 2)
Scarborough, Ontario
December. 18, 2012

MUCH had changed at EL PARAISO since the Philippines’ government closed the two big military bases. The arrival and flow of people was different now. Then, the flow was exciting - a blend of white and black Americans, a combination which gave additional colour to an already colourful surrounding. Then, life in the city became more vibrant upon the arrival of US Navy military ships carrying those sexually hungry Adams, who became even hungrier. This was brought about...

CHRISTMAS OF A HOOKER
(Part 1)
Scarborough, Ontario
Mon 10th December 2012

It was six years ago when Ruby last saw her best friend, Monika. They knew each other because they both worked as hostesses in a nightclub named EL PARAISO (EL PARAISO was a club of entertainment in the heart of the city of Olongapo. It was American servicemen’s favourite place to visit during the time when both Subic Bay and Clark Field where still under American control).

When the Americans left, commerce in Olongapo City dramatically went...

Today, in this magazine/website, in this issue and in this column, I am launching part two of my journalistic ambition – not bad from a fellow from Malolos, Bulacan who spent not a single penny, took not a single course in journalism and whose only form of education in writing is his passionate desire to write. In this part of the world where multiculturalism is not only allowed but also encouraged, I am truly grateful to be given this opportunity to write freely and in many different ways and forms.

This will be my system. If I must criticize, it will be constructive; and if I must comment, it will be diplomatic. The objective is, and always will be, to correct what is wrong and to give honour and praises to those who make the sacrifices to make our community a better one - most often at the expense of their personal life.
