Frank and Nelia Tonido
The Joy of Making Art
Mississauga-Ontario-Canada
Sat 22nd October 2011

Last October 14 to 16, the husband and wife team of Frank and Nelia Tonido presented their art at Visual Arts Mississauga.  The 30 paintings were a graceful mix of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, done in the different mediums of watercolours, acrylics and coloured pencils.

Looking at Nelia’s paintings, I was constantly reminded not just of the beauty of nature but also of its impermanence-- a cherry that was insect bitten, birds’ leftovers.  Flowers with fading colours, leaves curled and dying.  Her landscapes also had a nostalgic appeal, evoking genteel times.  Two paintings captured my fancy – but alas, they were sold -- “Sauteed Squash Shoots and Flowers," and "The Agawa Canyon Train Ride."
