HOSPITAL WITH NO NURSES

Nursing is still the number one college course in the country. Why? Many students and parents believe that this is college degree where graduates can easily land a job abroad especially in the U.S. and Canada and earn dollars to help their families in the Philippines. This the reason why many medicine graduates are taking up nursing to easily get a job abroad. We are now running out of nurses. What will happen now to our hospitals - no nurses?

Many opposition political leaders are telling the administration to be transparent in their transactions in bidding, contracts, etc. This should be done in all levels of government agencies long time ago to avoid any suspicion of anomalous acts. But are government people doing these? Even the Senators & Congressmen should be transparent on how their pork barrels are being spent. They should show every details how and where their pork barrels and allowances goes. I understand that many legislators have their own construction companies run by their relatives or close friends to corner the project for their advantages.

By protesting the launching of Philippine edition Playboy magazine, a publication featuring bold write-ups & photos of sexy models made by the Roman Catholic Church will surely help the the selling of the magazine. Filipino people will be more curious to find out why the Catholic church are objecting and of course to see the contents especially photos of Filipina models. Maybe one way the Catholic Church should do is to talk to advertisers not to support or advertise to sexy magazines where stories and photos are offensive or distasteful to the mind of the readers.

Nowadays, it is more affordable or cheaper to travel abroad like in Macau, Hong Kong and in some Asian countries. Package tour to Macau or Hong Kong one can get US$180.00 or PhP7,380.00 for 3 days & two nights. Philippine tourism industry should do something to attract local residents to travel to Philippines instead of spending the summer season to other countries. It is good for the economy and the Filipino people in general if domestic can be improved.

Only a day after the conviction of coup d’etat of the nine young officers who took part in the mutiny in 2003, there is already a talk in Malacanang to pardon the convicted officers. Malacanang should study the pros & cons before giving executive clemency to the group to avoid repetition of another coup d’etat. Also to be considered is what will be the effect of clemency to the case of pending case of Sen. Antonio Trillanes?

When will the cost of prime commodities and oil increases stop. The people have suffered a lot. The answer we always hear for the continuous increases is because of the international market. Can our government not do something? What are we going to do? just sit and wait for another round of increases.

Government authorities should go after rice hoarders and prosecute them including government officials involved. These rice hoarders will not do any illegal move without collusion with some government officials. In a 2005 report made by the Commission on Audit, the National Food Authority (NFA) made an unauthorized sale of more than seven million imported sacks of rice imported from other Asian countries to private traders at a loss of more than P2 billion pesos. People behind the transaction should be investigated and put to jail.
