Now in its 20th year of publication, Munting Nayon News Magazine(MN) is published monthly and mailed to recipients, catering to the Filipino Community of The Netherlands, including some recipients in Belgium, Luxembourg, and other European countries as well as USA, Canada and the Philippines. MN is operated by couple Eddie Flores and Orquidia Valenzuela.

FESTIVAL PARIS CINEMA 2008 UNVEILS FILIPINO FILMS

The Festival Paris Cinema unveiled over 40 Filipino Films last July 1-12, 2008 in Paris,France. The Philippine movies were screened in various Paris Theaters.

Among the films screened were the Caregiver of Sharon Cuneta directed by Chito Rono at MK2 Biblioteque on July 4, while the Dekada ‘70 of Piolo Pascual by director Chito also was screened back-to-back with the movie Ploning of Judy Ann Santos directed by Dante Nico Garcia at Balzac Cinema on July 5.

The three big stars attended the screening of their movies and extended their gratitude to all Filipinos in Paris as they showed their support to them.

The ambassador of the Philippines in Paris Jose Abeto Zaide told everyone that without him as a miracle worker and without the help of Mr. Rolando Atienza, the President of Film Development Council of the Philippines and the collaborative efforts of Mr. Jeremy Segay (Chargé de Mission de Philippines) and Aude Hesbert (Déleguée Générale) the artists will not be able to arrive and graced the screenings.

Judy Ann Santos Graces Her Movie Ploning In Paris

In an interview with consul Maria Angela Ponce, she said that this is a great honor for the Filipinos to be featured in this years Festival Paris Cinema to show and share the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines by means of showing the Filipino films in Paris. Mrs. Digna Santiago (Chairwoman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines task force) added that with this big event, the Filipino directors had the chance to meet their foreign co-producers as a sign that Filipino cinema has already reached out to the world.

According to Mr. Rolando Atienza (President FDCP) this is the first time in history of the Philippines that more than 40 Filipino films were brought in Paris at once and it is a way to show how great the Filipinos are.

Mr. Jeremy Segay (Chargé de mission de Philippine) revealed that he brought the Filipino Films in Paris for he was amazed with the quality of the films when he watched some of them in Cinemalaya in the Philippines. He also added that Philippines was blessed with great directors and talented artists.

Festival Award for TRIBU

After twelve days of international film screenings of various entry films from different countries, the TRIBU directed by Jim Libiran was selected for international competition and won the award Le Pari de L'Avenir (Youth Jury Prize) in Festival Paris Cinema 2008.
